WHAT IS A SUBLUXATION AND WHAT DOES IT DO?

A subluxation is a misalignment of the spinal vertebrae causing irritation to a nerve with a loss of normal NERVE function.  When vertebrae misalign it puts pressure on the nerves cutting off communication from the brain and spinal cord to that area supplied by the nerve. This interruption causes organs, tissues, and muscle to lose their function. A subluxation can be caused by ANY stress that the person's body cannot adapt to. The stress can be emotional, physical or chemical. By visiting the chiropractor and removing the subluxation, the neurons become less irritated, can heal themselves and allow the body its normal process to keep it health and homeostatic or balanced. With the nervous system functioning properly, health is restored.

HOW DID I GET A SUBLUXATION?

There are three basic causes of subluxation: physical, emotional and chemical causes. Physical causes such as repetative motions, slips, falls accidents etc. Stress, anger and fear are emotional causes. Alcohol, drugs, pollution and poor diet are examples of chemical causes.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I HAVE A SUBLUXATION?

One of the most commonly reported symptoms of subluxation is pain. However subluxations can be present before any warning signs appear. If you have never been adjusted before, chances are you have had a subluxation since your birth.

WILL A SUBLUXATION CLEAR UP ON ITS OWN?

Sometimes. Today's hectic lifestyles are a constant source of subluxation. Fortunately our bodies have the ability to self correct when we bend, stretch, or sleep at night. When they don't is when you need the chiropractor.

WHAT IS AN ADJUSTMENT AND WHAT DOES IT DO?
A Chiropractic adjustment is a specific force provides by hands or instruments in a precise direction that helps restore spinal alignment, motion and function. This adjustment reduces neurological stress and allow your body to heal and perform better. The adjustment is applied to a joint that is not moving normally (fixated) and help return  to normal position.  Joints moving in their proper position allow better motion and reduce stress to the neural tissue.

WILL ADJUSTMENTS MAKE MY SPINE TOO " LOOSE"?

No. Only the spinal joints that are " locked up" receive adjustments. This will allow weakened muscle and ligaments to stabilize and heal.

I DON'T FEEL ANY PAIN, SO WHY DO I NEED A CHIROPRACTOR?

Just feeling "OK" isn't an indicator of health. Symptoms don't start the moment the first cancer cells invade the body but we all know that the earlier the condition is detected the better chances for survival. Same thing with most spinal pain and dysfunction.  Subluxations are mostly unnoticed misalignments or improper motion of the joints in the spin and given time, these subluxations can lead to joint inflammation, abnormal muscle function, pain symptoms and dysfunction. Periodic adjustments take care of small problems before they have a chance to be become big ones. Chiropractors find and fix vertebral subluxations.

I HAVE HEARD ONCE YOU START GOING, YOU HAVE TO KEEP COMING. IS THAT TRUE?

Not always. Some people feel that a spinal condition is cured once the pain symptoms go away. This is actually when the healing is just beginning. Most conditions that have lasted for years of cannot be corrected overnight. The spinal damage was not done in one day, and most may not be fixed in one day (sometimes we get lucky though). The neurons that were damaged by that compression by the bone need time to heal and return to a normal state. Once the nerves are functioning properly, then the muscles, ligaments and fascia need time to adapt to the new position and motions of the vertebra. Many patients discontinue care as soon as their symptoms are gone which has often been a mistake. We promise never to hold you to a overbearing schedule and will assist with your specific needs.

CAN I GET CHIROPRACTIC CARE IF I'VE HAD BACK SURGERY?

Yes. The doctor will avoid areas of your spine that have been surgically modified while addressing the muscle compensations and provide an exercise regiment to supplement this procedure.

CAN I GET CHIROPRACTIC CARE IF I HAVE OSTEOPOROSIS?

Yes. The technique that the doctor will use may vary depending on how severe the bone loss if but regardless of your age, size or condition chiropractic can be helpful.

CAN I GET MY CHILD GET CHIROPRACTIC CARE?

Yes. Childbirth process can affect the infant's spine. They start to sit up and move and fall, bump and drop often and these little actions can cause subluxations in toddlers. Younger children are active and sometimes can fall and hurt themselves while playing. Stress at school and positions they take sitting at desks will have an effect. Teenagers play sports, or do their various activities and find they feel " locked up". Sitting awkwardly in chairs can have effects. Children need chiropractic too and it helps to stop long term problems from developing (they also tend to respond better and quicker to care).

Its not rough either. Children, teens and newborn spines are adjusted differently to provide safety to their growing bodies and developing joints.

WHAT'S THAT "CRACKING" SOUND?

Some adjustment techniques produce a sound like a "popping or cracking" that they feel when thrust is made. This "cracking" (called cavitation) is very common with some techniques when getting adjusted. But they are NOT an indicator of the quality or value of the adjustment. If you do not care for this sound we have plenty of techniques available that are less "noisy" and are just as effective. Just let us know beforehand so we work in your comfort zone.

IS IT SAFE?
YES! Chiropractic adjustments are very safe. Even newborns and children receive adjustments to repair the damage caused from the birth process, learning to walk, or other childhood trauma. Each adjustment is tailored to each patient's age, size, and unique spinal problem.

WHY AN ADJUSTMENT?
Chiropractic adjustment corrects Vertebral Subluxations. An adjustment helps your body to restore itself to optimum health! When the bones that protect the spinal cord lose their normal position and start moving incorrectly, delicate nerve tissue can become choked or irritated. If a thorough examination reveals malfunctioning areas of the spine, Chiropractic adjustments are recommended to help correct this malfunction, so your body can repair the neurological damage these misalignment cause.

Each day millions of people choose Chiropractic over drugs or surgery, as a common sense approach to better health; treating cause, not symptoms.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO FIX MY PROBLEM?

Some people enjoy results quickly, in a matter of days. Other patients may notice a slow gradual improvement over several weeks or months. There is no predictor to how you will heal and each case is different. We are willing to assist you get to the bottom of the issue for however long it takes.
